Title: Three Who Came Back, Page 6
From: Three Who Came Back
Original caption: Panel #1 -- “In person. And you were the guard who kept smearing me. . .you up here for a job too, Joe? Better grab yourself an application blank and start making with a pen.”
Panel #2 -- Joe wrote slowly and steadily. He wanted this job. He could think of nothing else. That’s why he had stumbled. And that’s why Rex’s stream of chatter was getting on his nerves now. . .
“Hustle it, Joe! Hustle it!”
Panel #3 -- Just then –
“O.K., boys, I’m free now. Which of you was here first?”
“I was, sir.”
Panel #4 -- Joe waited. The minutes dragged by. Beads of sweat appeared on his forehead. . .
“Won’t that smart aleck ever stop talking in there?”
Panel #5 -- “O.K., son, you may come in, now.”
Panel #6 -- “He’s just being polite. There’s no job opening any more. . .not after the smooth line that smart aleck must’ve handed him.”
