| 4 | It is very gratifying indeed to get the cheering news of the progress made throughout the nation in the promotion of the celebrations in conjunction with my fifty-fifth birthday. | |
| 5 | It is even more pleasing to know that those afflicted with infantile paralysis will be greater beneficiaries this year than ever before as the result of the thousands of birthday celebrations. | |
| 6 | The reports of the great work of raising funds have been truly inspirational. The fine support of the newspapers, the radio, the advertisers and the individual men and women workers everywhere makes our hopes for the new year brighter in the fight against this dread disease. | |
| 7 | My heartfelt thanks go to all those in every city, town and rural community who are attending the birthday parties. To the millions who on January thirtieth are dancing so that thousands may one day walk I join with those thousands in extending my appreciation. | |
