Text explaining how the blacksmith became blind.

The Blacksmith Shop, Reverse

FROM:  The Blacksmith Shop
ORIGINAL CAPTION:  TO THE PUBLIC.
Some years ago, while working at the anvil, I was struck in the eye with a red-hot spark, destroying entirely the sight of one eye, and producing a violent inflammation which resulted in the loss of the other, total blindness being the final result.
Therefore I depend upon the sale of these verses to enable me to support my wife and children. I crave your patronage, and solicit your charity to help a blind man.
