One of the amusing and confusing features of a visit to Warm Springs by a novice in matters "polio" is the use of coined words and specialized expressions by the patients. These terms creep into the POLIO CHRONICLE. We append a brief glossary of those you won't find in any dictionary.

2

PARAL, any person disabled by paralysis in any form; or, a contraction of "paralysis."

3

POLIO, any person who has met up with poliomyelitis (infantile paralysis) to their detriment; or, a contraction of "poliomyelitis."

4

FAKE, any person who has met up with poliomyelitis, without any apparent damage.

5

A.B., an able-bodied person.

6

PHYSIO, an angel (?) in human guise who is known scientifically as a physiotherapist.

7

PUSHBOYS, the attendants who push patients about in wheelchairs at Warm Springs.

8

THE "REC," the recreation cottage, also designated as Cottage II, one of the dormitory cottages long the home of the youngsters and the Foundation library.
